App turns iPad into an inspection device

Issue: June 2018

Visual Inspect With this new app for iPads, Faro has expanded its portfolio of quality-assurance tools that can be used by plastics processors, as well as mold makers, to check the contours of parts and components. Using Visual Inspect, operators can load CAD data from virtually any output format to an iPad, which they can carry with them anywhere on the shop floor. By comparing this data to parts or molds, technicians can determine whether the objects were manufactured as designed. When sold with an optional augmented-reality package, the iPad’s camera can work in conjunction with the CAD data so users can overlay the CAD data onto the part they’re checking.

What’s new? The app, which became available late last year.

Benefits Simplified quality assurance. Visual Inspect allows technicians to easily compare manufactured parts or mold components to electronically stored reference models.
