Autodesk has updated its Netfabb software, which allows 3-D printer users to import, repair and edit design files, and optimize parts. Netfabb also helps users lightweight their parts and determine the best ways to place parts on a build platform. Now compatible with printers from dozens of manufacturers, Netfabb 2019 can be used in printing metal and plastic parts.
The software, which is available in several versions, is unique in that it offers a full range of capabilities, from basic print preparation to sophisticated simulations, said Jamie Eckmier, senior marketing manager for Netfabb.
It offers new features for support-structure generation and access to cloud-based simulations, and provides more-accurate, small-scale simulations. It can convert 3-D mesh files to CAD and allows users to plan and model near-net shapes using Autodesk's PowerShape Technology. Users of the latest version of the Premier edition also now have access to Lattice Commander, a tool for building lattice-based, hollow structures in lieu of solid parts.
