Photocentric printer offers size and accuracy

Dec. 1, 2019
LC Magna can be used for prototyping large parts, or for producing large numbers of parts quickly.
LC Magna This LCD 3-D printer from Photocentric was originally intended for prototyping large items, such as electronic components and sports equipment, but the company said its high accuracy makes it viable for custom parts. It offers a range of resins including a daylight high tensile white and a daylight hard black resin; a high-temperature resin was expected to join the range shortly. The company is collaborating with BASF to develop materials offering high tear strength and flexibility.

What’s new? Size. Photocentric said the LC Magna’s 20-inch-by-11-inch-by-13.7-inch build volume is the largest for an LCD screen-based printer on the market.

Benefits Speed and price. While Photocentric said the LC Magna has accuracy similar to printers with a comparable build size, it prints faster and has a significantly lower price. With the ability to expose 100-micron layers in 8 seconds, the LC Magna is 10 times faster than its predecessor, the LC Pro. As an example, Photocentric said the LC Magna’s build plate is big enough to produce a batch of 125 electronic sensor housings, completing the run in four hours with a price per part of 50 cents each.
