KraussMaffei is continuing to expand its ZE BluePower twin-screw extruder series with a model featuring a 186mm screw diameter.

The ZE BluePower 186 is aimed at plastics processors that need high throughput. It has a modular design that allows it to be adapted to different processes, such as reaction, degassing, compounding and recycling materials, the company said at K 2022.

Xiaojun Cui, KraussMaffei’s executive VP for new machines, said, “Our customers benefit from efficient and proven technology that they can adapt precisely to their individual requirements with a wide range of familiar peripherals from the ZE BluePower series.”

There are now nine BluePower extruders, ranging from the ZE 42 with a 42mm screw diameter to the new ZE 186. The series was introduced at K 2013.

Larger-throughput models, starting with the ZE 98 with a 98mm diameter screw, all feature an optimized side feeder, increased free volume outer diameter-to-inner diameter (OD/ID) ratio of 1.65, a temperature control system, elliptical shoulder liners for better wear protection and a user-friendly base. They use ceramic cartridge heaters, and a range of 4D and 6D barrel housings is available.

The company also demonstrated its upgraded pioneer processControl system that focuses on simple and clear operations, according to Cui.

“Companies are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit qualified specialists,” Cui said. The pioneer processControl system uses wizards that provide the operator with step-by-step instructions for procedures such as starting the production line or shutting it down. Cui said operators receive the information they need at the time they need it.

Operators are also able to store information about their experiences and observations in the system.

Cui said the pioneer processControl will enable less-experienced operators to control complex extrusion processes, reduce errors, minimize downtime and optimize production efficiencies.
