German extruder manufacturer Leistritz Extrusiontechnik GmbH has added the ZSE 60 to its ZSE iMAXX twin-screw series. The model is aimed at masterbatch production and compounding.

Leistritz said its high specific torque of 15 Newton meters (Nm) per cubic centimeter, in combination with a high free volume of OD/ID ratio of 1.66, makes it one of the world’s most powerful co-rotating twin-screw extruders.

It was shown for the first time at K 2022 with Leistritz’s new LinXX intelligent control system. The LinXX displays the entire extrusion line and can quickly be configured with just a few steps. It includes an OPC-UA interface and expandable Industry 4.0 integration. Included are tools for complete recording of production data, reports and recipes.

Leistritz said it designed the compact extruder for quick product changes, cleanability and ease of use. All piping is stainless steel, and the barrel is insulated for maximum energy efficiency. The extruder also features an integrated two-circuit temperature control unit and a closed cover over the entire drive unit.

Screw diameter is 61.6mm. Screw length is 36D to 48D. Flight depth is 12.2mm.

Maximum standard torque is 2.65 Nm. The standard synchronous motor built by Kessler runs on 498 kilowatts.

Leistritz said the die head has three handgrips for safe handling and quick product changes. The screen and die plates are removable.

The gearbox is equipped with a condition-monitoring system where sensors record the machine’s behavior. An optional oil-level-monitoring system signals low oil levels, and an oil-condition sensor tracks actual oil wear.
