The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Thermoforming Division announced new breakout sessions have been added at its conference Oct. 24-26 in Cleveland.
Led by industry experts Mark Strachan and Robert Browning, the sessions will feature live, hands-on interactive demonstrations of thin- and thick-gauge thermoforming. The demonstrations will be at the headquarters of Plastics Machinery Group (PMG) in nearby Bedford Heights, Ohio, with transportation provided.
“Our conference theme this year is ‘The Business of Thermoforming,’ and these new breakout sessions tie in perfectly with this theme,” said Ed Probst, chairman of the SPE Thermoforming Division. “The SPE Thermoforming Division’s main mission is education, and to help processors solve problems.”
The thin-gauge program will be Oct. 24, and will feature classroom instruction at the show hall from 8-12, and hands-on training from 1-5 p.m. at PMG’s facility. Topics will include tooling set-up considerations, advanced thermoforming techniques, trim set-up considerations, troubleshooting and more.
The thick-gauge program will start with a full-day classroom session on Oct. 24 and a half-day hands-on session on Oct. 25. Topics include machine setup, mold installation and frame setups, heating and zone controls, vacuum, controlling webs and chill marks, and actual forming of parts with different materials.
