Wittmann Battenfeld has added a fourth granulator to its G-Max beside-the-press series.

Wittmann Battenfeld has added a fourth granulator to its G-Max beside-the-press series, the G-Max 9, designed for use with injection presses with up to 100 tons of clamping force.

The G-Max series is suited for closed-loop recycling of soft to medium-hard rejects, sprues and runners made from ABS, TPU, PP or PE. The G-Max 9 is designed to process scrap that is fed directly back to the molding machine. It was shown for the first time at K 2019 and is now available worldwide.

The G-Max 9 is the smallest of the line, which includes the G-Max 12, G-Max 23 and G-Max 33. The G-Max 33 is compatible with injection molding machines with up to 440 tons of clamping force.

The G-Max 9 features three different hoppers.Wittmann Battenfeld Inc.The G-Max 9 can handle material throughputs of up to 44 pounds per hour, depending on the shape, type and quality of material.

Three material hoppers of different heights are available. A hopper with a feeding height of 25 inches can be used below a chute connected to the injection press. The granulator is fed directly from the machine.

A hopper with a feeding height of 34 inches is best used below a conveyor belt or drum separator. The standard-height hopper with a feeding height of 45 inches is for use beside the press with a sprue picker or robot.

Hoppers are constructed with sound-dampening material sandwiched between two sheets of stainless steel. The cutting rotor comes with staggered three-by-three blades. The rotor diameter is 7 inches; the cutting chamber is 5.11 inches by 7.87 inches; and the motor output is about 3 horsepower.

An automatic belt-tensioning system is standard.

For safety, the G-Max 9 is electrically interlocked with the injection press so that it operates only when the top opening of the hopper is underneath a safety cover. Additionally, an optional electrical interface is available that stops the granulator when the press is turned off.

The electrical panel can be relocated to the opposite side of the granulator for operator convenience. A remote-control pendant, available on the larger G-Max models, is not used on the G-Max 9.

Material sifters are available with hole diameters of 4mm, 5mm, 6mm or 8mm. A tilting material hopper and swing-down screen cradle facilitate cleaning and servicing and allows the sifter to be changed without tools.

The regrind bin volume is slightly more than 1 gallon.

Wittmann Battenfeld designed all four G-Max granulators with an IE2 high-efficiency motor that reduces energy consumption and runs quietly. All four granulators have a compact footprint, the company said.
